Overview of Lab

The STARR Lab, directed by Dr. Michelle Brown, is an applied research group at the University of South Carolina.  We are particularly interested in using research to understand how adolescents develop after they have experienced trauma. These studies are crucial because they offer the opportunity to figure out where we can intervene and promote resilience to change the trajectory of a child's life.

Why Our Lab

Our Projects

Why Our Lab

Our focus is to understand interpersonal relationships and how they influence adolescent development following adversity. This research will contribute to informing interventions to prevent maladaptive outcomes like mental health problems and revictimization.

How We Help

Our Projects

Why Our Lab

Our research aims to help adolescents who have experienced trauma and/or adversity by studying how they develop future problems and informing interventions based on our findings. We want our youth to have the tools they need to become more resilient.
